Abstract

Permanent Sterilization in Women: A lecture in Demographic Language. In the past, doctors and demographs have underestimated permanent female sterilization as an anticonceptive method because they considered it as too radical and very difficult to accept for communities in which religious concepts and a sexist way of thinking have a significative value. Nevertheless, in the mid 70’s, this issue was so modified in a way that scholars were forced to review their previous concepts, as this lesspopular anticonceptive method was turning in the main birth control method in the whole planet, and was becoming in the most popular among women. This method has reached a considerable demand in South America, specially among disappointed usersof other birth control methods. Many factors are determinants to switch from temporary to permanent methods. As contemporary trends in early marriages and early motherhood also bring a new need in birth control methods and willraise the need of a sfer control for a longer time. Evaluations of this unsatisfied demands willbecome in a fundamental issue of health care, scarce resources allocations, and finally of distributive justice.
