Buscando la excelencia: autogestión clínica en la atención hospitalaria

Abstract

The current in sanitary, political an economic matters, plus the cost increase of health care, present the health team with a serious challenge: how to sustain the values of medicine —commitment to life, to human beirgs, to quality of care and to equity— in the face of the fact that each medical decision affechs the availability of scarde resources that might be required for others patients. We present the ideas bebird one of the institutional objetives of Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital, namely, clinical self-governance. This is an instrument for the integration of the classical ethies of the doctor —patient relationship with a “medical management ethies” that includes the assessment of the social consequences of our moment —by— moment decisions. Clinical self governance means assuming the full responsibility for the best utilization of resources, so that our search for excellence is assured.
