Evaluation of maternal and perinatal risk in mothers aged 35 years and more was the main objective of the study. A retrospective case-control analysis was done for deliveries at José Joaquín Aguirre Hospital in 1983, matched with controls according to: a) age between 20 and 34 years, b) same parity, c) same sex ot newborn cases, d) same socio-economic level (social security condition). The conclusions were the following: 1) maternal risk was greater in mothers aged 35 years and more, considering maternal morbidity and cesarean section; 2) newborns from mothers aged 35 years and more have greater risk considering morbidity, prematurity and weight below 2,500 grams.
