Abstract

Factors conditioning health situation of 100 childrens aged 0 to 23 months at a Peripheric Policlinic in Santiago are studied through a survey administered to their mothers or people in charge of them. The characteristics of the family group, mothers’ skills on health, attitudes in front of disease and knowledge sources for medical information are investigated.
The conclussions were the following:
— Positive factors in favor of health of the children are age and years of schooling of the mothers.
— Negative variables would be poor housing, laboral status of the father and low socioeconomics status.
Traditional medicine appears as a complement to medical care.
