Abstract

The evaluation of a community based program on alcoholism and substance abuse in Puente Alto (semi rural community near Santiago) is presented. This program in an application of the method proposed by Pan American Health Organization. A high number of alternative activities oriented to young people and the existence of a Health Commutter are remarkabIe issues. However, community involvement in the utilization and provision of services is low with the exception of those aspect related to information. In order to succeed in the long-term, the need of an adequate the program and the need of an adequate organization are emphasized.
