Abstract

A study about causes of consultation from adolescents is carried out into three centers of medical attention depending from the Metropo-itan East Health Service, through the revisión of clinical antecedents: Peripheric Clinic "Manuel Montt", (705 cards), Infant and Adults Services (627 cards) in "Luis Calvo Mackenna" and "Sal-vador" Hospitals, respectively and endocrinology Service of the "Salvador" (102 cards) Santiago. This corresponds to years 1978, 1979-80 and 1981.
The results obtained are as follows:
- Frequency of consultations for adolescents, in relation to the general population is similar in the three Services studied, with an average of 14.3%.
- Women consult in higher proportion, with an average of 2.4 consultations for each of men.
- Causes of consultation from adolescents in Peripheral Clinic do not differ from those of general population and correspond fundamentally to acute pathology.
- The causes of consultation in both services studied are similar to those of adult population with regard to most frequent pathology.
From previously informed on specific services, the authors infer that it is not necessary to organize in our country specific services to attend the adolescent since their needs for health would be covered by the present structure of Health Services.
