Training of health professionals and lack of health perspective

Following a brief overview of the Chilean healthcare system, often provided by various authors and certainly within the classrooms, and after recalling past attempts at reform, thwarted by the very forces that account for the sector’s true development, driven as it is by industry interests, the document exposes the original sin residing in the halls of medical undergraduate education, where the hidden curriculum, not the explicit one, holds sway, fostering allegiance to industry interests rather than the oft-proclaimed goal of strengthening primary care. The conclusion, then, is that a public health perspective is absent from the sector’s current landscape.
