Abstract

In 2007, a new Programme of Basic Specialists for Urban PHC was started by the Ministry of Health, with the participation of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile in two municipalities of the Metropolitan Region. The Programme is based on previous national experience. At present the Programme is consolidated as a new government Policy in the field of Health Care Resources for the public sector. The results so far are encouraging and its expansion, including the incorporation of new medical specialties, is envisaged.
