Abstract

Hip fracture is a very frequently observed pathology in geriatric centers. We have therefore registered five hundred thousand patients suffering this condition who were admitted to this institution during some time for their recovery, observing the differences seen through a quarter of century time period.
Analyzing the figures, it is outstanding that as years go by, the patients, mainly women as usual, are of older ages, there is a greater trend for surgical treatment, surgical techniques are always changing and improving, hospital stays are shorter. What remains unchanged is the high mortality rates of this condition.
