Abstract

The Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital’s continuo’s processes aimed at improving productivity and quality; put special emphasis in achieving a pharmacological arsenal according to their needs and a process of purchase and distribution of medicaments and other clinical products so as to balance the quality of care and the security of patients with a reasonable cost structure. For this, it has been essential to modernize the productive process of the Hospital based on the following concepts: unitary dose, consolidated mechanisms which are based on scientific evidence, discussion in clinical multidisciplinary teams in order to take decisions and, finally, the introduction of the concept of Clinical Pharmacy. However, the Hospital still has some needs for improvement such as in its information system, which is now in under review, in the elimination of peripheral stores.
