Epidemiology of suicide. Chile 2000-2002
Keywords:
suicide, mental health, epidemiology, territorial inequalityAbstract
The geographic distribution of suicide in Chile is described, for both genders and for different age groups, using adjusted rates for the triennium 2000 - 2002. Geographic disparities regarding gender, age group and male/female ratio are measured. Important inequalities among regions where found particularly for adolescents and people over 65. The rate was six times higher in males than in females. In most age groups suicide among men was strongly related to the regional poverty levels. For women, this only happens in the age group of 65 and over.
