Air pollution revisited
Keywords:
Air Pollution, hourly contamination values, health damage, mortality, Santiago, preventionAbstract
Health damage and mortality due to air pollution in Santiago is proportional to the inhaled and retained breathable particulate matter, which increases under heavy physical activity. Hourly information in a few Santiago locations is shown; it can be observed that high pollution peaks occur at different times at the various places of the city. Mobile 24 h averages informed by Chilean Health Authorities are also shown. These values do not clearly indicate air pollution peaks at the same Santiago locations. We insist on our proposition that Health Authorities should inform on line population hourly pollutant levels so that population at risk may protect themselves avoiding intense physical activity during peak hours.
