Abstract

Selected financial results of the sixteen most important Private health Insurance Plans (ISAPRES) in activity between 1990 through 1999 are analyzed in this paper. Seven of them concentrate 87% of the market. Out of these seven plans, financial data, expressed in constant 1999 chilean pesos (CHP) show the following: Net profit of the period was 182,480 millions (CHP), in Unidades de Fomento (UF), an inflation adjusted indicator for financial purposes the figure is 12,lll,269 and in 1999 average US Dollar conversion rate it was 339,043,514 USD. The rate of return over patrimony was 32.2%. Dividends to shareholders were paid in an amount of 47,596 millions CHP, in UF 3,158,965 and in US D it was 88,432,240. Variations between 1990 and 1999 show the following figures: Increase in patrimonial value: 749c, increase in affiliated persons 80.4%, increase in operational income 145.9% and increases in operational costs of 168.0%
