This article reviews the Chilean environmental situation of 1972, giving an account of the perspectives that predominated in the analysis of that moment: soils, water, pollutants, pesticides, mining. The author is part of a look from the south of ecological challenges. But this article also re- veals the intellectual strength of the environmental movement of the 70s and its university presence.
