Una experiencia de psiquiatría social

Abstract

The experience of five year’s work of a psychiatric service within a provincial general hospital is here described a service seeking to change from a traditional clinical entity into a clinical and social psychiatric institution. The social economic and epidemiological characteristics of the province of Iquique are analysed; a critical view opinion is presented of the dominant model in the sphere of psychiatric rehabilitation, and an outline is made of the theoretical and methodological basis of our work. Finally, we present a strategic design underlying our service’s programs and activities both clinical and with the community, and these are briefly described.
