Abstract

There concrete evidences as to the fact that maternity in teenagers implies a biopsychosocial risk to the mother, child, family and community as well. Better obstetrical and perinatal results were determined because of the application of an intervention, P.A.I.A.E. (Programa de Atención Integral de la Adolescente Embarazada) during pregnancy period in pregnant teenagers. In this study, the hypothesis that an integral assistance to the teenager during gestation period. emphasizing the strengthening of the mother- child bond, diminishes the effects of a deprived familiar, social and economic environment in the psychomotor development of the preschool child was stated. In the design of the research, it is considered the fact that the psychomotor development of the child cannot be enclosed to a causal variable, mother’s age, but it obeys to a multicausal pattern, which determined a study of the socioeconomic status as a way of approximating to the living context of the child. The population studied was preschool children whose mothers attended to in P.A.I.A.E. during gestation period. As a witness group preschool children were gathered who were teenagers’ children as well as who controlled their pregnancy through the official maternal perinatal program. The results of the values of psychomotor development show that the differences among the groups in the final test and the composing three areas, are not statistically significant, therefore the hypothesis is rejected. The socioeconomic status stratification and the analysis of each variables included in the measurement scale show that there is a deprived socioeconomic context. Nevertheless, the modifiying figures of the psychomotor development found are lesser than the ones reported by other authors in people of low socioeconomic status. Besides, a very low rate of children got pedagogic assistance, what stands out the mother and family’s role in the growing up of the child. The study of the correlation among the child’s biosocial variables and the socioeconomic status, in each group, show that when this was significant, p < 0.05, its intensity was habitually weak.
